JT McNamara is remembered for his winning ride on Rith Dubh in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham in 2002. Here are five other memorable moments from his time in the saddle.

2001 Leopardstown paddypower.com Champion INH Flat Race (Grade 1) - Like-A-Butterfly
JT McNamara's one and only Grade 1 success came at Leopardstown in April 2001 and owed much to Christy Roche. Not only did he train Like-A-Butterfly to the minute for the race, but in his own words he "persuaded" owner JP McManus to run the mare. McNamara did the steering and did such a fine job he cemented a relationship with McManus that would see him come to be associated with the green and gold silks for years to come.

2004 Galway G.P.T. Galway (Q.R.) Handicap - Rockstown Boy
Much like on Like-A-Butterfly, McNamara sat out the back on the Charles Byrnes-trained Rockstown Boy in one of Ireland's most competitive Flat handicaps. McNamara proved he didn't need to be hunting between flags, or even over obstacles, to be effective, keeping his mount out of trouble on the outside and putting the race to bed with a furlong to run.
