Oaks contender Saffron Beach takes to Epsom well in Monday gallop
The 2021 Flat season is well under way and it's full steam ahead to next month's Epsom Classics, the Cazoo Derby and Cazoo Oaks.
Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it's easy to miss a potential dark horse. Classic Clues, our new series running every morning, has you covered.
Here's a recap of Monday's action and how it's impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note today.
Racing round-up: Classic contenders visit Epsom
Some of the leading Cazoo Oaks and Derby contenders galloped at Epsom on Monday morning to gain a crucial bit of experience at the unique track.
Jane Chapple-Hyam confirmed Saffron Beach would take her chance in the Oaks and the 1,000 Guineas runner-up was reported to take to the course well.
Adam Kirby was confirmed to ride once again, which means he has live chances in both races having been booked to ride John Leeper in the Derby.
One Ruler, Ocean Road and Mystery Angel also featured at Epsom.
What they said
Jane Chapple-Hyam, trainer of Saffron Beach
It was a good experience and she took it in well. Adam was pleased with the way she handled Tattenham Corner and the straight. She was nice and balanced. The ground was a bit heavy today, so we just did a strong canter. She handles any ground, so it should be no issue whatever it is next week.
Today's racing: nice types at Newcastle
The Equine Products Founder Michael Reay Novice Stakes (6.55) is a race worth keeping an eye on with some smart prospects from the big yards in action.
Peter The Great beat some well-regarded types when landing the Wood Ditton at Newmarket on debut and he takes on last-time-out winners Nagano, Onesmoothoperator and Regal Vega.
