The likelihood of July Cup winner dropping back to five furlongs for the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York this month increased yesterday when he was ruled out of Sunday's Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

Trained by Henry Candy for Paul Jacobs, Limato ran out an impressive winner of Europe's most prestigious sprint last month, despite veering markedly right in the final furlong, and had seemed pencilled in for Sunday's Group 1.

However, Candy revealed yesterday that he would bypass a trip to France.
