Nico de Boinville boosts charity's coffers after falling for £10,000 classic car
Nico de Boinville may have been out of luck at the Coral Scottish Grand National meeting last April but the jockey did end up with a vintage car.
The Gold Cup-winning rider fell in love with an MG Midget which was on display at Scotland's richest meeting where it was being auctioned on behalf of Ayrshire Cancer Support's 'Home4Cancer' fundraising drive.
De Boinville bid £10,000 for the car and the man who has made a habit of winning on the likes of Coneygree and Altior was not to be denied.
"I saw the MG Midget parked near the weighing room at Ayr when I arrived for the Scottish Grand National meeting and when I found out it was up for auction I had to make a bid," he said.
"I had an agonising wait of a few weeks until I was told my bid had secured it. I'm delighted to have it at home now and look forward to driving it."
Ayrshire Cancer Support CEO Sandra McCall said: "Just a week after launching our fundraising drive to create a new centre for people affected by cancer in South Ayrshire a very generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, handed us the keys for this stunning red classic 1973 MG Midget.
"I'd like to thank this supporter very much for donating the car and thank Nico very much for falling in love with it!"
