A delighted Nicky Henderson received an OBE for services to racing from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

The five-time champion trainer was among those recognised in the New Year Honours List alongside good friend and rival Paul Nicholls.

"I'm delighted and honoured to receive this award on behalf of my family, Seven Barrows and racing," said Henderson.

"It's very nice and an honour to represent racing. It belongs to everybody really – it's a team game. Seven Barrows is a part of it and racing is what we do.

"I've been very lucky to be involved in a fantastic game for 40-odd years and we're lucky enough to be honoured in this way, which is certainly thanks to racing."

Henderson will be hoping for more silverware at the Cheltenham Festival next week and sends a strong team including Altior, bidding for a third successive victory in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
