Caspian Prince put up a bold show in his bid to defy a career-high mark in the William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap at Musselburgh, but the triple Dash hero had to settle for fourth behind Line Of Reason, who gave North Yorkshire trainer Paul Midgley a 203-1 sprint handicap double on the card.

Line Of Reason arrived late under Joe Fanning to deny Harry Hurricane in the big race, while the trainer's Orient Class earlier made it two out of two over course and distance by taking the William Hill Tartan Trophy Consolation Race Handicap.

Midgley was full of praise for Fanning's ride on Line Of Reason. He said: "Joe's given him a peach. There was a strong pace which he enjoys and the second horse has helped him because he's took him through and he's got there at the right time.

"I did say to Joe before he went out that he'd win. I've known Joe for a long time and we probably don't use him as much as we should."

The seven-year-old Line Of Reason was winning for the ninth time and victory in this £100,000 contest took his total career earnings past the £250,000 mark.
