Baker making good progress in recovery from St Moritz fall

Classic-winning jockey George Baker has been reported to have made good progress as he continues his rehabilitation from a horror fall in Switzerland in February.

Baker remains in the rehabilitation wing of the Wellington Hospital in London after suffering bleeding on the brain as a result of a fall on the snow course at St Moritz.

In a statement released by the Injured Jockeys Fund on Thursday, Baker's wife Nicola said: "George has made really good progress in the last week and the doctors are proposing that in two to three weeks' time he will move to another rehabilitation centre nearer to home."

Baker, who won his first Classic on Harbour Law in the St Leger last September, suffered the injuries when his mount Boomerang Bob was brought down on the frozen lake track at St Moritz.

He was taken by air ambulance to Graubunden Hospital in Chur, where he placed in an induced coma but was later reported to be conscious.

An initial CT scan showed no abnormalities but an MRI scan revealed there had been some bleeding on the brain.

Baker was transferred to the Wellington Hospital last month and has since moved out of intensive care unit and placed on the rehabilitation wing.
