Up-and-coming Newmarket trainers receive first Shadwell horses
Harry Eustace, Kevin Philippart de Foy and George Boughey have begun receiving their allocation of two-year-olds after joining the Shadwell Stud roster of trainers for 2023.
All three are to train four youngsters each, although Eustace could be the first to have a runner as he has also received the dual-winning four-year-old Alaroos, who has been switched from Kevin Prendergast in Ireland in a bid to get some early season black type in Britain.
Boughey's allocation includes one of the ten that the Shadwell operation bought when resuming purchasing at the Tattersalls October Sale last year, a Mehmas–Speed Freak filly who cost 220,000gns.
Philippart de Foy has received Shadwell homebreds by Blue Point, Dubawi and Noble Mission, and is waiting on a fourth by Siyouni to arrive from pre-training at the operation's Derrinstown Stud in Ireland.
He said: "We received three of the Shadwell horses just after Christmas and they are doing well. We have them at our main yard at Machell Place and they are making good progress.
"As you might expect, the Blue Point colt looks a bit sharper than the others and is a strong sort who could perhaps start off over six furlongs. The others look as if they may need more time and we are waiting on one to come in."
Richard Hills, Shadwell's assistant racing manager, said: "From now until the beginning of February all the two-year-olds will be allocated. Kevin, George and Harry got four yearlings each, who are all homebreds except the Mehmas filly who was bought at Book 2.
"Harry also got the older filly Alaroos from Ireland, who he is to try and run early to get some black type.
"They're all happy with them at the moment, and if they can run we'll be happy. It was great to be involved at the sales again last year and hopefully Sheikha Hissa can have another good year after Baaeed."
