Newcastle pull-up area under scrutiny again after Swift injury
Dale Swift was forced to give up his rides at Newcastle on Saturday after a freak incident at the same venue on Friday night, with the rider injured when unseated after his mount Hulcolt collided with the end barrier in the track's under-fire pull-up area.
In the wake of Swift's unseating, two-time all-weather champion jockey Luke Morris said the section of the Arena Racing Company track – criticised earlier in the week by reigning champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa – was "an issue they need to resolve".
De Sousa was critical on Tuesday of the lack of lighting after the winning post. He said: "You could easily see someone get unshipped in that area and have loose horses in the dark, which is dangerous. I'm not saying light it all up but they could have spent some money on a couple more pylons after the line as at the moment it is a hazard."
