Newbury's evening fixture on July 23 is going to be run as a raceday to raise funds for Prior’s Court, a West Berkshire charity specialising in support for those with severe autism.

The charity is fundraising to build a health and wellbeing hub at its specialist residential school. This is to help take potential anxiety issues away from visiting a doctor or dentist, in order to gain necessary healthcare treatment.

Karen White, head of fundraising at Prior’s Court, said: “We’re very excited to hold our inaugural charity race evening at Newbury racecourse.

"We have some fantastic opportunities for corporate sponsorship of individual races and hope that local businesses and racegoers will get behind us and lend their support.

"Every penny raised will go towards the health and wellbeing hub – which for some of the young people with autism we support could be literally life-changing.”

Storm does not deter schoolchildren

Storm Ciara may have jeopardised the British racing calendar but it did not stop Racing to School, which continues to educate children about horseracing.

Despite Lingfield's Tuesday fixture being abandonment they visited the Surrey venue. Racing to School also held a specialist sculpture workshop with artist Debbie Burt at Newmarket academy.
