New minimum catering standards set to be introduced at Irish tracks

New minimum standards around racecourse catering facilities for stable staff will be developed after a meeting was held between key industry groups in the wake of a recent Kilbeggan protest by grooms.

New Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board chief executive Darragh O'Loughlin called the meeting at Galway on Tuesday. Discussions also took place around implementing processes to help avoid the escalation of future disputes.

Irish Stable Staff Association (ISSA) chairman Bernard Caldwell called for Kilbeggan manager Paddy Dunican to resign in the aftermath of no free bottled water being provided in the stable yard on a warm night at the track earlier this month.
