New London has 'outstanding chance' of giving much-needed boost to Appleby team
Victory for odds-on favourite New London in Saturday’s Cazoo St Leger would be a timely tonic for Charlie Appleby’s yard according to Seb Sanders, who says he has never seen the staff as low as they were on Monday morning following Coroebus’s fatal injury.
The death of the 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace winner in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp on Sunday left its mark on Appleby’s workforce, including Sanders and fellow former champion jockey Kieren Fallon who ride out at Moulton Paddocks and are participating in the Leger Legends at Doncaster on Wednesday.
Back-to-back St Leger wins, a year on from Hurricane Lane’s success in the Town Moor highlight, would provide a boost to the Godolphin stable’s team and both ex-riders believe New London, a winner of four of his five starts, has exceptional claims.
