Nassau repeat? Deirdre's work suggests she's in 'no way inferior to last year'

There may not be a crowd but Japan will be hoping for a repeat of the jubilant scenes that followed Deirdre’s historic Nassau Stakes success last year when she bids for consecutive wins in Thursday’s top-level contest at Glorious Goodwood.

Deirdre was a first Japanese-trained runner and winner at the meeting when successful under Oisin Murphy in the Qatar-sponsored event and returned to action this term with an encouraging fifth behind Ghaiyyath in the Coral-Eclipse this month.

Trainer Mitsuru Hashida feels the star six-year-old, who is owned by Toji Morita, has come on for her reappearance as she bids to become only the second mare to record back-to-back Nassau wins since the turn of the millennium – a feat achieved by three-time scorer Midday.
