Monday inspection called for Chepstow's Tuesday card with track waterlogged

Chepstow's meeting on Tuesday must survive an inspection on Monday morning after recent heavy rainfall has left the track waterlogged in places.

The ground was described as heavy, standing water in places and not raceable on Sunday morning ahead of the eight-race card after 48.5mm of rain hit the track in the last 36 hours, prompting officials to call for a check on conditions at 8.30am on Monday.

Clerk of the course Libby O'Flaherty said: "We need a lot of luck on our side. On Friday night into Saturday morning we got 25mm, and on top of that 23.5mm during the day and overnight.

"The forecast on Sunday is nice and bright, but there's a chance of us catching showers with 1-3mm of rain in the afternoon. Tomorrow morning there's another chance of a shower and we need to see how much rain the track can soak in.

"There is also an uncertain band of rain that could hit on Tuesday during the afternoon with the chance of catching a heavy shower. Ideally we need the best of the forecast, which would be none of it."

Isobel Francis' Brighton ban reduced to five days

Isobel Francis lost her appeal against a seven-day ban imposed by stewards at Brighton last month for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best placing aboard Honey Pot.

The claimer, whose ban was reduced to five days at an independent hearing on Friday, was found to have stopped riding shortly before the winning post in the mile apprentice handicap on April 27 as the Hughie Morrison-trained Honey Pot was beaten by a nose for third place.

"There's no suggestion of intention here," said the panel's chair Brian Barker. "We regard this as a small misjudgement but it did have unfortunate consequences. However, there are various factors here that allow us to change the original ruling made by the stewards."

Seamie Heffernan six-day Cork whip ban

The six-day ban for excessive use of the whip dished out to Seamie Heffernan by the stewards at Cork on April 23 has been overturned on appeal.

Heffernan was found in breach of regulation 10.3(g) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and was suspended under regulation 10.6(a) for his winning ride aboard Kyprios.

In his evidence, Heffernan explained how green his mount was having turned into the home straight. He said Kyprios hung right causing him to clip a heel, cocked his jaw and veered left again. In an attempt to correct his mount, Heffernan used his whip on two or three occasions in front of the saddle for corrective purposes.

Heffernan added he had not reported this to the clerk of the scales on weighing in as it had not affected the performance of Kyprios, who won comfortably in the end.

Mylestown Upper reinstated at Kilbeggan

Mylestown Upper, who controversially lost a maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan in the stewards' room last month, has been reinstated as the winner after his owners were successful with their appeal.

Mylestown Upper was sent off 5-6 favourite on the day under Jamie Codd and had a nose to spare over Hymie Weiss at the line, but the Kilbeggan stewards adjudged him to have impeded the runner-up and reversed the result after a lengthy inquiry.

Andrew and Gemma Brown appealed against that decision and the three-man Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board appeals body ruled in their favour.
