William Hill to run sportsbook at Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City

William Hill have strengthened their position in the American market after it was announced the firm would operate the sportsbook at Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from June 28.

Following this month's momentous verdict delivered by the United States Supreme Court to lift the ban on sports betting in the US, Hills had already moved quickly to partner with New Jersey racecourse Monmouth Park and will run its sportsbook.

Hills, who are a big operator in Nevada, have recently opened an office in Hoboken, New Jersey, where they are building their digital operations.

"We are very excited to be a part of Ocean Resort Casino and to have a presence on the Atlantic City boardwalk," said Joe Asher, the CEO of William Hill US.

"We have had great success working with Ocean’s senior management in Las Vegas and we are excited to have the chance to do so in Atlantic City at what will be the best sportsbook in town."

The court lifted the ban on sports betting after finding in favour of the state of New Jersey's challenge to the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).

Welcoming the news, Hills chief executive Philip Bowcock said: "This is a landmark moment for sports betting and for William Hill. Now, all attention shifts to the States, where steps have already been taken to prepare for this day."

Musselburgh sold out

Musselburgh’s Stobo Castle ladies' day on Saturday is another 10,000 capacity crowd sell-out.

All hospitality packages were bought months ago and the remaining general admission tickets have now also sold out.

More than £105,000 in prize-money is on offer on the seven-race card, which features the £40,000 Listed Stobo Castle Ladies Day Gold Cup.
