Ownership has proved a valuable and enjoyable outlet for several high-profile football individuals over the years, most notably the likes of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

David Moyes, the man who followed Ferguson into the United hotseat but swiftly departed from it, is another to enjoy ownership, holding a share in the Donald McCain-trained Desert Cry.

So it makes sense that, when asked about the turnaround in form of his current team West Ham United, Moyes would reach for a racing analogy to describe their performance.
