More dominance? Irish now want a first National Spirit at Fontwell
The Irish dominance in Britain's jump races could well reach Fontwell on Sunday with Darver Star one of six declarations for the £90,000 Royalequestrian-sponsored National Spirit Hurdle – where he will bid to become the first Irish-trained winner of the race.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained runner is scheduled to make his fourth visit to Britain and once again take on Brewin'upastorm, who defeated him by a length and a quarter in a clash at Lingfield's Winter Million meeting last month.
Brewin'upastorm has course form in his favour this time as the reigning winner of Sunday's Grade 2 prize. Olly Murphy's stable star defeated McFabulous by five and a half lengths last season and is aiming to become the first since Lough Derg, in 2009, to defend the prize.
The Paul Nicholls-trained Monmiral adds a touch of class to the line-up. He established himself as Britain's top juvenile hurdler last season when sprinting clear to Grade 1 honours at Aintree, but he was extremely disappointing on his sole start this season and comes back off a 92-day break.
Allmankind is back over hurdles after flopping when last seen in the Peterborough Chase, although he did win the Old Roan Chase in October.
Botox Has is the lowest-rated runner in Sunday's line-up for Gary Moore. He drops in trip after two promising efforts in three-mile handicaps.
The field is completed by Guard Your Dreams with jockey Jordan Nailor seeking the biggest victory of his career on the six-year-old.
The meeting is Fontwell's biggest of the season but only 44 runners were declared across the seven races.
Sunday's card at Naas also has plenty of quality with Captain Guinness the key horse in the BetVictor Chase (2.00). Representing the Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead partnership, he takes on Blackbow, Cash Back and Darasso.
The other Graded conditions race on the card, the BetVictor Novice Hurdle (3.00), features six runners including recent winners Ha D'or, Flame Bearer and Meet And Greet.
