Merger talks: betting industry bodies ABB and RGA discuss joining forces

The Association of British Bookmakers (ABB) and Remote Gambling Association (RGA) are in talks to merge the two major betting industry trade associations.

Discussions are understood to be in the early stages, with the timescale unclear about when the new body, which would represent both the retail and online betting sectors, might begin operating.

The ABB did not wish to make a comment, while RGA chief executive Clive Hawkswood stopped short of confirming the talks, saying: "We do undertake periodic reviews and our working relationships with other sectors always form a part of that.
