It promises to be another thrilling Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday. Here are four of the most memorable moments in the raceday's history . . .

Mosse magic as Europe stroll to victory

Gerald Mosse stole the Shergar Cup show in 2008 as he played a captain’s role in guiding Europe to an easy victory on the unique raceday.

Mosse accumulated 50 points across his five rides, more than twice as many as nine of the other 11 jockeys, winning aboard Shifting Star in the Sprint and Perfect Star in the Mile as well as two seconds from his other three mounts.

The Frenchman is a two-time winner of the Alistair Haggas Silver Saddle, also landing the prize in 2013, and rides on Shergar Cup day for the ninth time on Saturday.

Danzeno appears to be Mosse’s best ride in the opening Dash (1.05), while Time To Study (1.40), Zhui Feng (2.50) and Jack’s Point (4.00) have each-way claims.

Europe prevail in tightest finish

It went down to the wire in 2014 as the Frankie Dettori-captained Europe held on by a point from the Girls in a thrilling conclusion.

The concluding Sprint proved the decider as German jockey Steffi Hofer could manage only fourth aboard Telmeyd, ensuring the Girls finished on 68 points, one shy of Europe's total of 69.

Emma-Jayne Wilson enjoyed a breakthrough meeting to ride two winners before being narrowly denied a hat-trick in the Classic by a nose, with Silver Saddle scorer Olivier Peslier aboard the winner Our Gabrial.

Girls strike for first time as Bell shines

Sammy Jo Bell was called up to ride just two days before the meeting and proved the star jockey in 2015 when winning two races as the Girls landed the Shergar Cup for the first time in the four years since their team was introduced to the event.

The Silver Saddle winner became the first apprentice to ride in the Shergar Cup and steered Royal Signaller to success in the Stayers while Shell Bay won the Classic.

Another winner for Wilson in the Challenge ensured the Girls amassed 80 points, beating second-placed Great Britain & Ireland by 13 on arguably the Shergar Cup finest day.

Turner lifts Silver Saddle

Hayley Turner came out of retirement to ride in the Shergar Cup in 2016 and two years later seized the Silver Saddle prize for the first time as the Girls struck again.

Via Serendipity was Turner’s sole winner in the Mile but the form figures of her other mounts was 3302, ensuring she topped the jockey standings with 39 points with Hollie Doyle and Josephine Gordon adding 37 points to the Girls’ winning tally.

Turner contests the event for a 13th time on Saturday with Sapa Inca (3.25) and Pass The Vino (4.00) seemingly the pick of her rides.
