Owner Bill Enticknap and trainer Stuart Williams have to wait until the last race at Yarmouth before Lunar Deity goes to post for the 100th time, with Pat Cosgrave getting the leg-up for the Sky Sports Racing HD On Virgin 535 Handicap (8.30) over a mile.

The 11-year-old began his career with Eve Johnson Houghton, but came to Williams in October 2013 and has more than paid his way for the yard.

Williams said: "He's been a star. He won a couple of times before he got to us and then he’s won 16 times since we got him. His owners are very big supporters of mine and have always had a horse with me, virtually since I started training."

The Lunar Deity fan club extends beyond Williams' Newmarket yard, given he's played an important role in two burgeoning careers in the saddle. "The owners are very keen on encouraging young riders and often their horses are ridden by very inexperienced riders," said Williams.

"Lunar Deity's given a first winner to both my apprentice Marco Ghiani and to Grace McEntee, and they’ve gone on to do very well since.

"He knows where the winning post is and always tries very hard. If you saw him going up the canter in the morning, you'd think he was a three-year-old. He's very sprightly and very enthusiastic."

With owners still barred from attending Williams is hopeful that, as long as the rain stays away, Lunar Deity can give Enticknap "a good night in."

Rejuvinated Ask The Guru still a monkey in the mornings

Ask The Guru has racked up an extraordinary 51 starts at Lingfield so the Surrey venue is a suitable place for the ten-year-old to reach three figures in the Tadwick Handicap (6.10)

After five starts for Ralph Beckett, Ask The Guru was bought to go to Michael Attwater in October 2012, with whom he has remained ever since.

"He'd clearly over-achieved as a two-year-old and it took a long time for him to get back to a winnable mark," recalls Attwater. "But once he did, we’ve had a lot of fun with him over the years. He hasn't won for a while and towards the end of last year we began to think it might be time to call it a day.

"He's always been a five furlong horse and never really looked like he’d go a yard further but we thought we'd try him up at six and he's taken on a new lease of life. He's been placed a couple of times and not been beaten too far so, from stall one, he could certainly give them something to think about."

Owner Roger Kilby has enjoyed campaigning a number of Attwater's inmates to a ripe age, including Salient, Prince Of Thieves and Bravo Echo, while the pair also run another ten-year-old in Noble Deed in the same race.

On the gallops, Ask The Guru has learnt a few tricks along the way.

Attwater said: "He can still have the girls hanging off him in the morning, he can be a bit of a monkey and he can be pretty quick when he wants to have a duck and a dive or a buck and a kick. He’s had plenty of victims over the years."
