The Evening Punt: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Friday
EYECATCHER
Frankadore(8.35 Pontefract)
Tom Dascombe's son of Frankel looks to have been found the perfect opening to get off the mark at the eighth attempt in this Pontefract maiden handicap. The 100,000gns purchase has disappointed so far in his career, but put up his two best performances when cheekpieces were fitted this season and the application of a first-time visor today looks the key to his chance. He looks leniently treated off his falling mark, rain getting into the ground should be no trouble (fourth on good to soft on debut) and he is drawn well in stall two. The 8-1 on offer last night represented serious value, but I'm still willing to have a go at half that price.
GOOD THING
Belated Breath(8.25 Newmarket)
There's plenty of rain at Newmarket as well today, and that leaves me thinking Belated Breath has a huge chance of getting back to winning ways. Hughie Morrison's filly is best when the sting is taken out of the ground, although she has won twice on good to firm, and her five-length romp from the front in wet conditions at Salisbury last season was probably her most impressive to date. She is now competing off a mark 16lb higher thanks to a consistent run of performances that included two further victories, but there could be more to come from this quick filly and providing she can get to the front, I think she will prove hard to pass.
