Masar has responded well to treatment to the injury that forced his dramatic withdrawal from the Coral-Eclipse on Friday evening and trainer Charlie Appleby is confident the Investec Derby winner will not be kept off the track for long.

Masar, the first colt to carry the Godolphin silks to success in the Derby, was set to renew rivalry with Roaring Lion and Saxon Warrior, who had followed him home in third and fourth at Epsom, but was found to have injured his off-fore leg during morning exercise on Friday.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon, Appleby said: "He's responded well to the treatment over the last 24 hours and the inflammation has been reduced.

"We won't make any plans until the early-to-middle of next week after we get another diagnosis. But it's encouraging the inflammation has gone down and I'm confident we'll be seeing him again soon."

The son of New Approach gave Appleby his first British Classic winner when striking at Epsom, enhancing an already stellar season for the trainer who enjoyed a Group 1 double on Dubai World Cup night.
