Carberry and Maguire families represented as charity series kicks at Curragh
Paul Carberry's wife and Jason Maguire's sister are among 14 riders taking part in the 2018 Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series, which starts at the Curragh on Sunday.
Rachel Carberry will be on board Falak from the Gordon Elliott stable, while Theresa Maguire teams up with stablemate Water Sprite.
Elliott has been generous to the jockeys involved, supplying four of the runners and two reserves. Former Meath footballer Ian Kearney is on Masterson, and Killian McCarthy, husband of Jennifer Walsh, partners Brutal.
Michael Higgins, general manager of the Irish Injured Jockeys fund, joked: "What do you get when you mix a probation officer, an artist, a gardener and a WAG with 14 other equally diverse individuals from all over Ireland and beyond? One hell of a Corinthian Challenge line- up, that’s what!"
The three-race series moves on to Navan and Leopardstown in September and October. Riders will accumulate points for placings, with the winner to be crowned at Leopardstown.
Each rider is aiming to raise €10,000 through sponsorship and/or fundraising, with all money raised going to the Irish Injured Jockeys.
