Aidan O'Brien eyeing Queen Elizabeth II Stakes for Guineas hero Magna Grecia

2,000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia, who has missed most of the season, is being aimed for a return to action in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot next month.

The colt provided Aidan O'Brien with a tenth victory in the Newmarket Classic in May but has not run since finishing fifth in the Irish equivalent at the Curragh later that month.

Reported to have suffered a hamstring injury, Magna Grecia has had a long spell on the sidelines.

O'Brien said: "We had to give Magna Grecia plenty of time off but he's progressing and had a racecourse gallop after racing at the Curragh on Sunday.

"The plan is to bring him back in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on October 19 as long as we're happy with him."

Magna Grecia is a general 14-1 chance for the £1.1 million contest over a mile with St James's Palace second King Of Comedy heading the betting at 6-1.

Magna Grecia landed the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster on his final start last season, defeating this year's Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain by a head.
