Newbury racecourse made profit after tax of £17.2 million in the first half of the year thanks to the final sale of land forming part of the property development at the course.

The purchase of land by David Wilson Homes in April resulted in an exceptional profit of £20.1m for Newbury, which had made a profit after tax of £280,000 in 2015.

Goodwood's accounts for 2015 have also been lodged with Companies House and have shown a sharp increase in turnover and a rise in operating profits.
