Apprentice Cieren Fallon has quickly made a name for himself in the saddle this summer, but racegoers at Doncaster on September 11 will catch a glimpse of his legendary father Kieren, who will roll back the years to take part in the tenth running of the Leger Legends charitable contest.

Fallon, who retired in 2016, was a six-time champion jockey in Britain and also won the Derby three times alongside a brace of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphes.

He will be joined in the 0-70 classified stakes by former top jump jockey Noel Fehily, who retired in March having won more than 1,000 races including the King George VI Chase, Champion Hurdle and Champion Chase, while Sammy Jo Bell, Charlie Poste and Vicky Smith are other first-time participants.

Gary Bardwell and Luke Harvey will be taking part for the ninth time in the mile race, which is sponsored by Geoff and Sandra Turnbull's Elwick Stud – the home of dual top-level winner Mondialiste.

Geoff Turnbull, who suffered the sad news of the death of Sky Bet Ebor hope Lord Yeats on Tuesday, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the tenth running of the Leger Legends.

"We recognise the fantastic work carried out by the committee, in organising an event to raise vital funds for Jack Berry House and the National Horseracing College, who provide excellent training and support for the people who make this fantastic sport possible.

"The Mondialiste Leger Legends Stakes has a very fitting venue as Doncaster was the first racecourse he carried our colours at."

More than £1 million has been raised in the race's short history and the Professional Jockeys Association's executive director Dale Gibson, who won it in 2014, added: said "I am thrilled that Geoff and Sandra Turnbull have chosen to embrace the race and wish them and the new committee every success alongside the hardworking team at Doncaster."
