Kenny Alexander's decision to retire as chief executive of GVC Holdings marks the end of an era in a number of ways.

He has been synonymous with the company having led it for 13 years, transforming a little known online casino operator into one of the major players in the gambling industry, not just in the United Kingdom but further afield in Europe, Australia and the United States.

While GVC has always been predominantly an online business which now also operates betting shops thanks to its acquisition of Ladbrokes Coral, Alexander was also a connection to the old days of bookmaking.
