Kempton battle looks to have been won but turf war is probably not over

So, for now, the King George VI Chase will remain at Kempton with the jumps and all-weather tracks off the endangered list as part of the Jockey Club's latest housing development proposal.

This is good news for the sport and one of jump racing's seasonal highlights. Had Kempton been bulldozed it would have set a dangerous precedent.

But reading between the lines of Wednesday's press release it seems likely a similar idea will emerge again down the line.
