Kemboy cut for Ladbrokes Trophy after Clonmel Oil Chase success
Kemboy was cut to as short as 10-1 for the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in December after making a winning return to action in the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase.
The six-year-old got the better of last year's winner Alpha Des Obeaux to provide trainer Willie Mullins with a fourth Clonmel Oil Chase in six years.
An 11-8 favourite, Kemboy produced a brave leap at the final fence to settle matters and kept on well to score by three lengths.
"We want to run him in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury, but we've got to see how he comes out of it," Mullins told ATR. "He was very fresh jumping and it's good for him to get that out of the system.
"Hopefully he'll develop to Grade 1 level. He's improved during the summer and there's a great chance he'll break a rating of 160."
Jockey Paul Townend retained the ride on Kemboy after winning with him at Limerick and Punchestown on his last two outings.
"He was fresh early on and was jumping well for the first circuit," he said. "He was brave at the last and there should be a bit of improvement to come."
