Ontopoftheworld
Sixth, Newbury, Friday

Sit on this one for a while. The vibes before Ontopoftheworld's return from 13 months off were hardly promising. He was reported as "a bit backwards" in the in-running comments and was sent off at 66-1.

Nonetheless, he travelled well until four out, when he started to drop back through the field.

He progressed quickly on joining Peter Bowen in mid-2018, winning six times in a few months. He will be on a winning mark soon and has historically had most of his success on better ground. He could be one of Bowen's summer projects.

Winner, Doncaster, Saturday

I've had this horse on my radar since he turned a Chepstow bumper into a procession in November and he's won twice since.

He was extremely inexperienced on his first start over hurdles at Leicester but showed last weekend he had learned from that, where his jumping was much slicker. A powerful stayer in heavy ground, it's a shame we won't see him in a race like the EBF Final at Sandown on Saturday.

Regardless, he rates a superb long-term prospect and, as a half-brother to decent staying chasers Catching On and Streets Of Promise, I've already got him earmarked for a Welsh Grand National in a couple of years.

Second, Huntingdon, Sunday

Three fairly talented novices lined up for the beginners' chase at Huntingdon on Sunday. The winner, Equus Secretus, is a talented if somewhat quirky handicapper who has often shaped well in good races, but just a head behind him was Lies About Milan, a chasing debutant.

The runner-up is bred to stay extremely well, is a point winner and had just two previous rules runs to his name. How he took to fences and his general unexposed profile are big positives, as is the fact that he will not be raised from his mark of 128 for running an established 134-rated rival so close.

Third, Newbury, Friday

Third to Kepagge in the aforementioned Chepstow bumper, this six-year-old could also have a promising future.

He was given an extremely quiet ride at Kempton on hurdling debut, causing the stewards to get involved, and it was a similar scenario here as he stayed on in taking fashion late on.

I am waiting to see what sort of mark the handicapper gives him after another run but he should be winning sooner rather than later in that sphere, particularly if the market speaks in his favour.
