Brian Kavanagh will be chief executive of Horse Racing Ireland until at least September 2021 after he was reappointed for a further five-year term.

HRI yesterday revealed Kavanagh had been reappointed from September 2016, as approved at their board meeting last week, with the consent of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform.

Kavanagh will oversee the new Curragh racecourse project, a €65 million development which is the biggest ever racecourse capital expenditure project in Ireland.
