Jumps tracks to review prices as attendances continue to decline

British racecourses say they have no choice but to act this winter against the backdrop of the cost of living crisis and low summer attendances.

The average crowd at courses in August was 4,048, a slight drop on 4,125 last year but a 27.1 per cent decrease on the pre-pandemic figure of 5,318 in 2019 and the lowest average since records began in 1995.

The average between January 1 and August 31 was 3,666, a 17.4 per cent drop on 2019 and the lowest since 1995. Excluding 2020 and 2021, it is the first time the figure has fallen below 4,000.
