Jockey facing up to a month out with fractured wrist
James Doyle has escaped serious injury but faces up to a month on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture in his wrist following a fall in Sydney on Monday.
The jockey, who has taken over retained rider duties in Australia following the suspension of James McDonald, fell from Pearls in the early stages of the Group 3 Triscay Stakes at Randwick on Monday.
With the Sydney autumn programme hotting up, Doyle now faces a race against time to return to fitness and partner some of Godolphin's star runners in their major targets, including Astern in the Group 1 Galaxy at Rosehill on March 18.
"While it's disappointing to have suffered an injury at such an important part of the autumn carnival, I expect to recover quickly and return to riding within a few weeks," said Doyle.
"I am thankful I was able to walk away with only a fracture and thank all the medical staff at the Australian Turf Club."
Godolphin on Tuesday confirmed they will not be seeking a replacement for Doyle, with trainer John O'Shea content to look to riders used by the stable throughout the normal course of the season.
