New Sandown housing plan boosts hopes Kempton will win reprieve

Racing fans and professionals hoping to see Kempton survive may have been given a boost after the Jockey Club put forward a proposal to fund redevelopment work at neighbouring sister track Sandown through the building of 300 homes and a hotel.

News is still awaited on Spelthorne Borough Council's final response to the Jockey Club's application to construct around 3,000 homes at Kempton, which would be bulldozed in return for a cash windfall set to be well in excess of the initial £100 million base projection.

One of the reasons given by the Jockey Club for its controversial Kempton blueprint was some of the funds raised would be used to "transform" Sandown through major investment in the facilities and track.
