Jason Watson will be champion one day but 2019 may come too soon says coach Reid

Jason Watson, who on Sunday outlined his intentions to challenge for the Flat title in 2019, undoubtedly has it in him to become champion jockey, according to one of his biggest supporters, but he questioned whether it is achievable as soon as next year.

John Reid, who won the Derby in 1992 on Dr Devious, has kept a close eye on young riding talents in his second career as a jockeys' coach.

Reid's alumni include Oisin Murphy, the general second favourite to dethrone three-time champion Silvestre de Sousa next year, and he has helped nurture the skills of Watson, who was crowned Stobart champion apprentice at Ascot on Saturday.
