Hackwood and Prix Maurice de Gheest under consideration for The Tin Man
The bet365 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury and Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville are options for three-time Group 1 winning sprinter The Tin Man after an encouraging run in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
James Fanshawe's seven-year-old finished sixth behind Blue Point at the royal meeting, doing his best work late, and may be tried over seven furlongs later in the season.
He landed the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock last September and was a staying-on third in the Prix Maurice de Gheest on his sole attempt at six and a half furlongs the previous month.
"The Tin Man is bouncing and ran a nice race in the Diamond Jubilee," said Fanshawe. "He just missed the break a bit at Ascot but still ran well and I’m hoping there’s another nice race in him this season.
"I'm considering the Hackwood Stakes and Prix Maurice de Gheest with him, and the next aim is to try and get his nose in front again.
"There's a possibility we might give him a go over seven furlongs this year. He ran well in the Maurice de Gheest last year when a keeping-on third and it would be interesting to try him over that trip."
Syndicate members with Fred Archer Racing have enjoyed many memorable days with The Tin Man and boast another exciting sprinter in unbeaten filly Archer’s Dream.
The Pegasus Stables-run Fred Archer Racing enjoyed ten winners from 11 horses last year and Nunthorpe entry Archer’s Dream has won all three starts this campaign, most recently dead-heating with Snazzy Jazzy in the Listed Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury last month.
The three-year-old is now being aimed at the William Hill Summer Stakes at York next week.
Fanshawe said: "She's pencilled in for the Summer Stakes at York and that's the logical next target, although she wouldn’t want the ground too fast.
"She’s done nothing wrong and surprised us a little at Doncaster when winning like she did on debut. She was very impressive there, comes from a good sprinting family and has done nothing but improve since."
On the same card as the Hackwood at Newbury on July 20, dual novice stakes scorer Pondus, who weakened out of contention in the King Edward VII last time, could run in the Steventon Stakes.
Fanshawe said: "He was always seeing a bit too much daylight at Ascot and was a bit keen. He might not have quite stayed the trip at this stage of his career so we’re likely to drop back to a mile and a quarter for the Steventon Stakes next, but I’m hopeful he will in the future."
The Fittocks Stud-owned homebred Kirstenbosch is unbeaten in two starts and entered in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks next month.
She is set to run at the Knavesmire later this month with Fanshawe targeting the Listed Lyric Fillies' Stakes on July 26.
Fanshawe said: "She's a light-framed filly but a great mover and really athletic. She's thriving and hopefully can progress to Listed class.
"She’s improved so much in two runs and won impressively last time so you’ve got to give yourself the option, hence we entered her in the Yorkshire Oaks."
