Two years after completing his first long distance walk in aid of racing charities, 11-year-old Jack Lander will take to the streets again on Sunday when setting off from Newmarket's July Course at the start of an eight-day march.

The final destination will be the Injured Jockeys Fund's northern rehabilitation centre, Jack Berry House, some 161 miles away in Malton.

Lander captured the imagination of racing professionals and public alike when raising £13,700 for the IJF and Racing Welfare on a walk in 2015 from Stratford racecourse to Oaksey House in Lambourn.

"Jack has been pounding the treadmill at home while three bucket collections at racecourses and the money already pledged online for the walk means we are already up to nearly £4,200," said Jack's father, Darren Lander.

"Jamie Osborne told him he should be aiming for twice as much this time round as it's that much further, although he hasn't set himself a target as such."

A keen pony rider who hopes to become a jump jockey, Jack will be covering 20 miles a day for eight days before doing the final walk into Jack Berry House a week on Monday.

Darren Lander said: "Richard Farquhar from Walking The Courses and Racing Welfare chief executive Dawn Goodfellow have pledged to walk with him and he was delighted to receive a letter from Jack Berry himself asking if he could walk with him on the last day."

Donations to Jack's fundraising efforts can be made at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JacksRWIJFWalk, while anyone wishing to join Jack for part of the route can obtain details by emailing jacksinjuredjockeyfundwalk@outlook.com
