'I've got back the hunger that was missing' - Noel Wilson returning to Britain
Noel Wilson admitted the pull of Britain had proved too much after revealing he was ending his time training in the US.
He and partner Alex Porritt headed out to Florida in early 2020 after being forced to hand in his licence in Britain for financial reasons after nearly 20 years.
Even though the trainer was among the winners at Gulfstream Park, he said last year he would return home "in a heartbeat" if the right offer came along.
And Wilson revealed this week: "We’re coming back to Britain. We've really enjoyed our time in the US and we've learned a lot, but we're just missing family and friends and our racing.
"I'll be applying for my trainer's licence and bringing a couple of horses back with us in a month.
"I'm looking to train around the Malton area and I’m just trying to finalise a place to rent. I'm hoping some of our old owners will come back to us. After being away for a couple of years I've got back the hunger that was missing."
Wilson's string was down to eight horses when he sent out his final runner in Britain in 2019, prompting his decision to quit and head to Florida, where he sent out his first winner in August last year.
He had started training in 2000 and won 200 races, notably the Gosforth Park Cup and Scottish Sprint Cup with useful handicapper Pavershooz in 2009.
Wilson began his career in racing as a jockey and won the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham on Ushers Island in 1993.
