Ivan Furtado runner Busby backed into 9-4 favouritism from 16-1 at Kempton
De Sousa switch revealed after Ivan Furtado runner backed from 16-1 to 7-4
A major gamble is on at Kempton tonight after Busby was slashed into 9-4 from a morning price of 16-1 before then being subject to a significant jockey change.
Ivan Furtado was poised to have two runners in the Download The MansionBet App Handicap (7.30), but at 1.51pm, general 9-1 chance Kenyx was scratched from the race due to a bad scope.
By this point stablemate Busby had been backed into around 13-8 and it was revealed shortly afterwards that Silvestre de Sousa, down to ride Kenyx, would take over on Busby. He was originally meant to be ridden by 7lb claimer Elle-May Croot, who had been on board for the six-year-old's last six starts.
He is owned by The Giggle Factor Partnership, while Kenyx is registered to Gary White. The two parties are shared owners of Just Beautiful, who gave Furtado a first Group win in the Sceptre Fillies' Stakes at Doncaster earlier this month.
Busby has not won a race since November 2019, when he took a Class 4 handicap over course and distance off an 18lb higher mark.
He has finished no better than fourth in six starts since joining Furtado at the start of the season, being sent off 100-1, 80-1 and 66-1 in his last three outings. He is coming back off a 112-day break this evening, while four of his five wins have been at Kempton.
De Sousa has had 17 winners from 78 rides for Furtado, including the aforementioned Group 3 success at Doncaster.
