'Frustrated' Gina Andrews set for six-week layoff after Cheltenham fall
Leading amateur jockey Gina Andrews expressed her frustration at missing out on the busy Christmas period after sustaining multiple injuries in a fall at Cheltenham on Friday.
The multiple point-to-point champion is aiming for a return to race-riding in the new year, despite suffering a fractured cheekbone and eye socket and bruised liver when the Pam Sly-trained Haafapiece took a crashing fall at the final flight in the 2m1f handicap hurdle, before Andrews received a heavy kick from a rival while on the floor.
While Haafapiece came out of the fall unscathed, Andrews was attended to by racecourse doctors and medics for some time before being taken to hospital in Gloucester, where she spent the night before leaving on Saturday afternoon.
