The Season has long appealed to The Dikler. An endless summer of parties at fancy social events, hobnobbing with well-heeled guests and the upper classes while quaffing champagne and discussing one’s portfolio.

Front and centre of The Season is Royal Ascot, although some feel it is no longer as elite as it once was – a state of affairs The Sunday Times was keen to investigate in last weekend’s magazine.

Despite such horrors as over-blinged, under-dressed women, drunken behaviour, the infamous bare-chested showdown and, as one well-to-do racegoer reveals, there only being one Rolls-Royce sighted, it seems Royal Ascot still remains a bastion of The Season.
