A dream horse bought for small money is primed to spark more wild celebrations at Cheltenham on Sunday after the syndicate owners of Dads Lad confirmed they had the Greatwood Hurdle (2.55) in their sights.

The Willie Mullins-trained ante-post favourite is rumoured to have cost a little more than the price of a decent second-hand car, a far cry from some of the sums paid in jumps racing and, by the sounds of it, not far off the bar bill after Dads Lad's win at Cheltenham's Showcase meeting last month.

The 5-1 shot is vying for favouritism with another Irish raider Thousand Tears in the £100,000 highlight of the final day of the three-day meeting that has attracted a staggering 81 Irish-trained entries.
