'It's a big ask' - Charles Byrnes planning Lanzarote raid with Green Glory
Green Glory has been all the rage for Saturday's Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle at Kempton and trainer Charles Byrnes has given him the green light to run in the £100,000 contest.
The six-year-old, who was a cosy winner of a novice handicap hurdle at Leopardstown at the end of December when running down Spirit Of Legend late under Philip Byrnes, has been backed into a general 7-2 for the Lanzarote, although sponsors Coral have him as 5-1 joint-favourite with the Paul Nicholls-trained Outlaw Peter.
Byrnes has three winners from seven runners over jumps in Britain this season – the other four finished no worse than fourth – and is no stranger to landing a big pot, but Green Glory will have to defy a 16lb higher mark on Saturday.
