'It didn't seem right' - Tony Carroll withdraws Friday runners amid fuel crisis
Trainer Tony Carroll stressed that the welfare of horses when travelling amid the ongoing fuel crisis must come first after two of his horses set to run at Newcastle on Friday were declared non-runners due to a lack of diesel available for his horseboxes.
Worcestershire-based Carroll pulled out Fieldsman and Ask The Wind from the card and became the first trainer this week to withdraw his horses due to travel-related problems directly because of the crisis, which has been caused by a shortage of fuel tanker drivers across the United Kingdom.
Motorists continue to struggle to find fuel at petrol stations, and the crisis affected the vans carrying Carroll's three runners back from Chelmsford's meeting on Thursday evening and forced the trainer into deciding against taking his horses on the trip to Newcastle.
