Is Enable getting the recognition she deserves from the handicapper?

There is not much Enable cannot do. She has won 12 of her 13 starts, nine Group 1s, two Arcs, two King Georges, more than £9 million in prize-money, and yet she is not the highest-rated horse in training.

That honour falls to another horse running at York this week. One who has won half of his 16 starts, one Group 1, less than £2 million and been beaten by Enable both times they have met.

Crystal Ocean tops the Longines World's Best Racehorse rankings with a mark of 127 – Enable is rated 1lb inferior on 126. Yet conduct a poll among racegoers at York this week about who they think is the best horse in the world and Enable will almost certainly come out on top. So, how have these ratings been reached?
