Irish Racehorse Trainers Association chief executive Michael Grassick is hopeful that the post-Brexit protocols for transporting horses between Ireland and Britain can be made more straightforward in future, with increased paperwork and a pre-travel veterinary check now required under the new regulations.

In line with the Irish government's extension to the ban on travel from Britain until January 6, Irish-trained horses and jockeys are currently advised not to travel to Britain.

The fresh regulations are bound to make the travelling process more drawn out whenever the ban is lifted, with a minimum five-day notice period required to be given to the Irish department of agriculture before intending to travel.
