Killarney never has a bad hair day but it looked particularly pretty on Monday evening. Twenty-four degrees can make anywhere look good, not that Ireland's most picturesque track needs any make-up.

We're world champions at complaining in Ireland, though. It was too hot on Monday, not warm enough on Tuesday, chilly on Wednesday and even colder on Thursday. Those conditions should have catered for everyone, right? Wrong. It pleased nobody.

“Sure we never need sun-cream here,” said a mother whose two small kids have faces redder than Brian Molloy from Waterford, who was supposed to back Drumfad Bay for his wife but said number seven instead of number six at the Tote desk.
