Douvan, Un De Sceaux and Min chasing big money in Champion Chase
Day one of the Punchestown festival means the beginning of the end of a long season, and with so much prize-money on offer we're hoping to eat into Gordon Elliott's commanding lead in the race for the trainers' championship.
The BoyleSports Champion Chase (5.30) is the biggest pot of the day with €162,250 to the winner and excellent prize-money for the placed horses. We're giving it our best shot with four runners – Douvan, Min, Un De Sceaux and Ballycasey.
Douvan appeared to be going well in the lead when falling four out in the Champion Chase at Cheltenham last month, but it was too far out to draw any conclusions as to what might have been. He came out of the race well and his work since suggests he will be very competitive today.
