Introducing the brand new Racing Post mobile app

Since 1986, when the Racing Post newspaper was born, our mission has been simple: to provide horseracing punters and enthusiasts with the best data, insight and information available, in the most convenient ways possible.

We've come a long way in the last 36 years. While the newspaper remains a key part of what we do, we now also reach a vast digital audience from Britain, Ireland, and across the globe, who access our content via a dizzying array of devices, formats and platforms.

Perhaps the most important of all these platforms is our app, which first launched in 2010 and is used daily by hundreds of thousands of racing bettors, fans and professionals. While our app had changed a lot in the years since it launched, the technology it was based on had become outdated and was increasingly difficult to update. A change was needed.

So over the last 18 months a team of journalists, researchers, betting experts, user experience designers, product managers and developers have rebuilt the app from the ground up, focusing on adding new functionality and creating a fast, attractive and easy-to-use platform. This new app is now available for everyone to download – those who haven't already updated to the new app can download it for free here – and will be rolled out to all users over the next few days.

The new app has all the great features of our old app – including live video, detailed racecards and results, extensive news, exclusive tips, Spotlight verdicts, Signposts, Predictor, integrated betting with major bookmakers and lots more – and a brilliant, brand new odds comparison tool. Crucially, it's also an incredibly flexible base to build on, meaning we'll be able to add new features and act on your feedback quickly.

So this is only the beginning of the journey for our new app. We know it's not perfect yet and have big plans to enhance it. We'll be busy over the next few weeks tidying things up, adding new functionality and responding to your feedback (and, on that note, I'd like to extend a massive thank you to the thousands of you who over the last few months tested our beta app and provided us with so much helpful insight).

Following that, we've got an ambitious programme to add new data, information, content and tools to the app, which is when things get really exciting. We'll keep you updated on our progress.

Finally, I want to say we know how different this app is to our old app, which our loyal customers have been used to for many years now, and we understand that some will be sad or frustrated to see it go. We loved the old app too, and it is with mixed emotions we bid farewell to it, but we recognised the time had come for a fresh start, one which would enable us to create an app that was fit for the future and would enable us to succeed in our mission to provide you with the best horseracing service possible.

I hope the new app will become an indispensable part of your racing life, just like the old one was for so many. If you have time to provide us with some feedback, we would be grateful to receive it – you can send it to us here.
