Winx could surpass Phar Lap record in Chipping Norton
Australia: Winx and Hartnell will lock horns again next Saturday in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick, with the mighty mare chasing a 15th consecutive victory.
Despite a two-day delay due to extreme temperatures in Sydney, Winx was still too hot to handle for her rivals in the Apollo Stakes earlier in the month, and trainer Chris Waller is pleased with how she came out of the race.
'We weighed her and she's put on a couple of kilos since the Apollo," Waller said. "So she's holding her racing weight and that's important.
"She's fit and our job is to maintain that and keep her going through the preparation and she's as good as she can be."
Victory in the Chipping Norton would mean Winx surpasses the great Phar Lap's sequence of 14 straight wins. She has beaten Hartnell five times during this run.
With James Doyle on the injured list with a fractured wrist, Brenton Avdulla takes the ride for the first time.
